The rule where you lose points for engine/aero/chassis failures was largely redundant for the 2011 season as there were so few failures.
What I propose is to give a -10 point penalty if there is a retirement due to mechanical failures for any component of the car.
So, for example in Brazil if you had McLaren aero/chassis or engine you would have got -10 points for Hamilton's retirement due to a gearbox problem, plus 18 points for Button coming second in the other McLaren.
Any comments?
Alternatively I'll scrap the rule entirely.
